Cosmetic procedures go through trends. Sometimes liposuction is the hottest procedure, then a few months later, breast augmentations may be more popular. Longevita, a London-based plastic surgery practice, shared a study of the most searched cosmetic procedure on Google in each U.S. state.
Kirkland, WA facial plastic surgeon Daniel J. Liebertz, MD says that while rhinoplasty isn’t necessarily his most popular procedure, he has seen more patients coming in for consults over the last few months. “I think rhinoplasties are popular right now due to the pandemic: COVID-19 has given many people dedicated downtime by working from home, and regular mask-wearing is a great way to cover up post-surgical swelling and healing,” says Dr. Liebertz.
Additionally, he notes that the increased use of video conferencing and selfies have likely spiked people’s desire for rhinoplasty as they spend more time looking at themselves. “Most self-facing cameras have focal lengths that artificially enlarge the size of facial features closest to the lens, most notably the nose!” he adds.
According to the study, rhinoplasty was the most searched for procedure in 10 U.S. states, including Florida, New Jersey, Oregon, Kentucky and Hawaii. Longevita subsequently named rhinoplasty the most popular procedure in the U.S. as it was the most searched in the most states.
The runner-up was the Brazilian Butt Lift, which was the most searched in eight U.S. states. In the middle were abdominoplasty, breast reduction, breast enlargement, eyelid surgery and penis enlargement. Tied for the fewest searches were breast augmentation, jawline surgery, gastric band surgery and liposuction.
